Grand Canyon National Park to Manage Two Fires on North Rim

Grand Canyon, Ariz. - Fire managers on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will be managing two lightning-caused fires for multiple objectives.

Tiyo Fire: The Tiyo Fire is less than one-quarter acre in size and is located on the Outlet Peninsula approximately three miles west of the North Rim developed area and two miles south of the Basin. It is burning primarily in ponderosa pine with some pockets of mixed-conifer and aspen. The area last burned in 2005 during the Dragon Fire.

Kaibab National Forest Lifts All Fire Restrictions

Beginning at 8:00 am on Tuesday, July 17, the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest will rescind campfire and smoking restrictions. Recent monsoonal weather has created wetter conditions and reduced fire severity across the forest. Restrictions on the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts were lifted over the weekend, which means that all fire restrictions across the Kaibab National Forest are rescinded as of tomorrow.

Grand Canyon, Ariz. - Monsoonal weather patterns have moved into the Grand Canyon area decreasing fire danger. As a result, fire managers have lifted all fire restrictions within the park.
