Saturday, November 30, 2019 -The small town of Tusayan, located just outside the South Entrance of Grand Canyon National Park on Arizona 64, has been without power since 3 AM Friday, when a winter storm stuck with high winds and heavy snow. Nearly two feet of snow fell before the storm cleared earlier Saturday morning and plows have been unable to keep up. Due to impassable roads and a lack of power for heat, Tusayan has declared a state of emergency. The American Red Cross has set up an emergency shelter at the Horace Albright Training Center inside Grand Canyon National Park. Those need a ride to the shelter can call 928-638-7302.

AZ 67 to North Rim Closed for the Winter

De Motte Park in the fall, along AZ 67

Because of the incoming winter storm, the Arizona Department of Transportation is closing State Route 67 to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

During the winter, ADOT closes and doesn’t clear snow from SR 67, a 43-mile highway between US 89A at Jacob Lake and the park, since North Rim visitor accommodations are shut down. After closing on Dec. 1 – or earlier when weather warrants, as in this case – SR 67 reopens each spring, usually around mid-May.
